About Aisling

Aisling Urwin is a harper, songwriter, performer and teacher with almost 2 decades of harping experience.
She began playing the harp at the age of 9 and was taught by several teachers over the years, in that time learning by ear, by music, completing grade exams and a degree in Music with Arts from UCC.

Aisling has always been drawn to the experience of learning by ear and has found that the Irish Trad sessions she began joining at about the age of 12 provided a great foundation in this area. In sessions, using the harp as an accompaniment instrument trains you in listening for harmony, for melody and exploring chord progressions in real time making it a great training in composition, harmony and improvisation.

Over the past decade, Aisling has recorded several albums, the most recent being 'Hibernate,' by Woven Kin (a duo project between Aisling and Siobhán Moore). As well as this, Aisling has been fortunate enough to travel the world with her harp, playing music in several groups with exceptional musicians.

This has led to much sonic exploration on the harp, meetings of genres and new sonic spaces. Aisling has taken all she has learned along the way, anchored it with her background in Irish Music and refined it with her formal musical training to bring you these online harp courses.

"Not only is Aisling a gifted musician, but she is also a very talented teacher.
Her passion and commitment to teaching is evident in the results I am experiencing and the joy I feel when I play.
During our time together, I have built a repertoire  of pieces (from a variety of genres) that I feel confident in playing for myself and sharing with others.
Aisling tailors each  class to meet my needs and skills, where I am progressively learning, and  improving musically."
